Justin Rose wins Quicken Loans National in playoff

Justin Rose is the 2014 Quicken Loans National champion. He won the event at Congressional in a playoff over Shawn Stefani.

Both Rose and Stefani shot a 70 on Sunday, finishing at 4-under 280. Rose needed one playoff hole to earn the victory, his first of the season. He made par on 18, while Stefani double-bogeyed the par-4 hole.

Rose atoned for his mistake on 18 to end the fourth round, when he tried to hit through trees and ended up in the water. He bogeyed the hole. Stefani bogeyed 17, leaving the golfers tied, and resulting in their playoff.  

Rose will take home $1.17 million, in one of those big checks, and 500 FedEx Cup points. 

"Congressional got its reputation back," Rose said after his win. "That's a tough golf course."

Notes

• Patrick Reed went in to Sunday leading the tournament, but had a disastrous final round, shooting a 5-over 77. He dropped 10 spots on the day and finished tied for 11th. 

• Andres Romero shot a 68 on Sunday, jumping a whopping 27 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for fifth at 2-under. We are impressed. 

• Only 18 golfers finished at even par or under. Only 10 finished below par. It was a tough weekend. 

• Jordan Spieth had another solid tournament, finishing tied for 11th at even par. It's his 15th top-25 finish in 19 tournaments this year. He's remarkably consistent for a 20-year-old.
