Wyndham Clark may have narrowly missed out on becoming the 12th player on the PGA TOUR to card a 59, but he still had plenty to celebrate after firing a 12-under 60 to set a new scoring record at Pebble Beach on Saturday.

The previous single-round tournament record was 62, while then-Texas Tech senior Hurly Long set the previous course record in 2017 with an 11-under 61.

Clark ran into some trouble on the 12th hole, but he was able to stop the bleeding and escape with an unlikely bogey. He responded with three birdies and three pars for a strong finish. However, his bid for 59 was done in by some short putts over his last three holes.

His attempt for a birdie on No. 17 was particularly heartbreaking.

"I didn't even visualize a day this good," Clark said after his historic round, per Golf on CBS. "It was honestly surreal. ... I'm honestly really proud with how I played. To shoot a score like I did on this golf course is pretty special."

Clark charged up the leaderboard thanks to his dominant performance, vaulting him into first place heading into Sunday's action.
