Michael Thompson shot a final-round 67 on Sunday to win the 3M Open by two shots over Adam Long.

The 35-year-old Thompson entered the day holding a share of the lead but an early bogey on No. 3 surrendered the top spot to Tony Finau.

However, Thompson battled back to sit in a tie with clubhouse leader Long heading into No. 16 and hit an incredible bunker shot from 37 feet to set up a tap-in birdie for the outright lead.

Thompson went on to birdie the final hole and secure his second PGA Tour title in style. He previously won the 2013 Honda Classic.

"It's been a long time," Thompson said while fighting back tears. "I'm really sad my wife and kids can't be here to celebrate this with me. I can't wait to see them."

He added: "I don't know what to say, this is so exciting right now."

Thompson, who was ranked 218th before the week, locked in his PGA Tour card for another two years and also punched his ticket to the 2020 PGA Championship, 2020 U.S. Open, 2021 Players Championship, and 2021 Masters with the win.

Here's the final top of the leaderboard:

Place Player To Par R4 Score
1 Michael Thompson -19 67
2 Adam Long -17 64
T3 Robby Shelton -16 64
T3 Charles Howell III -16 65
T3 Emiliano Grillo -16 65
T3 Alex Noren -16 66
T3 Tony Finau -16 68
T3 Max Homa -16 67
T3 Cameron Tringale -16 66
T3 Richy Werenski -16 70
T3 Charl Schwartzel -16 68

Long fired a 7-under 64 to storm up the leaderboard and finish alone in second.

Finau failed to complete the comeback while attempting to earn his second PGA Tour win. He was trailing by two shots going into Sunday and held the solo lead after two birdies over his first three holes. He went 1-under from that point onward, placing inside the top 10 for his second straight week.

There are two events next week on the PGA Tour schedule. A field of 78 players will compete for the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational title in Memphis, and the Barracuda Championship (an alternate-field event) will be played in Truckee, California.
