Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman will plead his case to the league next week.

The 32-year-old's appeal hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday in New York City.

Wideman is appealing the 20-game suspension he was assessed after hitting linesman Don Henderson in a game against the Nashville Predators on Jan. 27.

The Flames defender spoke publicly Thursday for the first time since the suspension was handed down, apologizing to Henderson while maintaining the collision was unintentional.

Wideman will have served four games of his suspension by Wednesday's hearing.
