Counterattack - Wednesday's Top Contrarian Plays

Here are the top against-the-grain selections for Wednesday's slate:

D Alex Pietrangelo, Blues (at Avalanche)

Pietrangelo has been overshadowed by blueline mates Kevin Shattenkirk and Colton Parayko this season, but he's still a viable play due to his team-leading 26:28 TOI and high block (1.86 per game) and shot figures (2.52).

With only two goals this season on 106 shots, the former Canadian Olympian's shooting percentage is an unsustainably low 1.9 per cent. Colorado starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov has allowed at least four goals in three of his last five starts, so there's a decent chance that Pietrangelo's puck luck takes a turn for the better Wednesday.

G Mike Condon, Canadiens (vs. Devils)

Condon has won his last two starts, but a prior streak of seven straight losses may still have left a bad taste in prospective DFS owners' mouths. He's not quite cheap enough to be a bargain, either, but a home matchup against a Devils team likely to be without leading scorer Mike Cammalleri (upper-body) bodes well for his chances of picking up a win.

New Jersey failed to score in Monday's loss to the Red Wings, and even with Cammalleri in the lineup for the majority of the season, ranks dead last in shots per game (25) and tied for 27th in goals (2.28 per game).

W Jeff Skinner, Hurricanes (at Canucks)

Skinner has run hot and cold this season, with only four points in nine games since a nine-goals-in-six-games stretch in early December. He's still playing around 16 minutes and shooting 2.82 times per game, so the opportunities are there, especially against a Vancouver team that ranks in the bottom-10 in both goals against and shots allowed.

C Ryan Getzlaf, Ducks (vs. Maple Leafs)

After a stretch of five points in as many games in late December, Getzlaf has again gone cold, with no points in his last two games. He did take five shots in those two games, and remains a fixture on Anaheim's 10th-ranked power play, so the points should once again come soon enough.

His shooting percentage still sits at four per cent, well below his career average of 12 per cent. Getzlaf's price on most DFS sites has fallen from its season-opening level, but is likely still high enough to deter big ownership.

Toronto gives up the seventh-most shots in the league, and while Jonathan Bernier has won three of his last four starts, his early-season struggles and a six-goals-on-15 shots outing against the Islanders in late December don't inspire too much confidence in the former King.
