Dallas Eakins' failed tenure with the Edmonton Oilers wasn't enough to keep him out of the coaching business.
The AHL's San Diego Gulls named Eakins as their head coach on Friday.
Eakins, 48, coached 113 games in the NHL, earning a record of 36-63-14 before his dismissal in December 2014.
He does have experience at the AHL level, spending four seasons with the Toronto Marlies.
The Gulls, formerly the Norfolk Admirals, are the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks.
