The Montreal Canadiens weren't in the rental market.

Less than two weeks after signing defenseman Jeff Petry to a lucrative long-term agreement, the Montreal Canadiens have re-signed another mid-season acquisition, announcing a three-year extension with depth forward Torrey Mitchell.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Mitchell, a Greenfield Park, Quebec native, made 14 starts in the regular season after coming over from the Buffalo Sabres at the trade deadline. He chipped in with an uncharacteristic six points in the team's 12 playoff contests.

He was acquired in exchange for prospect Jack Nevins and a seventh-round selection in next year's draft.

A fourth-round selection back in 2004, Mitchell has recorded 105 points in 457 games split between the San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild, Sabres, and Canadiens.
