Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each scored a goal and added two helpers as the Pittsburgh Penguins improved to 2-0 to begin the season with a 5-2 steamrolling of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

- With 68 percent possession in the first period, the Penguins took advantage of three power play opportunities and a shaky Jonathan Bernier to build a 3-0 advantage on 13 shots.
- With the opening goal and an assist on Sidney Crosby's lone marker, Patric Hornqvist secured his fourth point in as many periods to begin his tenure with the Penguins.
- Pittsburgh peppered Bernier with 15 shots in the second, but were only able to maintain their three-goal cushion. With the man advantage, Malkin erased a Joffrey Lupul goal with his first of the season.
- Brandon Sutter scored the Penguins' fifth goal and his first of the season in the third, depositing a Paul Martin rebound.
- Toronto's Tyler Bozak and Stuart Percy teamed up for the second time in as many games, improving the Maple Leafs' power play to 2-for-5 on the night with a third-period goal.
- A frustrated James van Riemsdyk fought Simon Despres with 33 seconds left in the game.
- Crosby, who won the scoring title by 17 points last season, is already leading the 2014-15 race with six points through two games.
