Hurricanes name Don Waddell President

Don Waddell has been hired as President of Gale Force Sports & Entertainment, according to a press release from the team on Wednesday.

Waddell spent the last three seasons as a scout in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization, and previous to that spent time as the general manager and president of the Atlanta Thrashers, and as the assistant general manager of the Detroit Red Wings. 

The 55-year-old Waddell has been involved in hockey as an executive since 1990, guiding franchises from San Diego, and Orlando as well as serving as a player and coach for IHL franchises in Toledo, Flint, and San Diego. 

“Don is a very experienced and well-respected hockey executive,” said Hurricanes Owner and Chief Executive Officer Peter Karmanos Jr. “He will bring a fresh approach to the business side of the Carolina Hurricanes.”
