The Dallas Stars were home to the highest-scoring American-born forward in the NHL. Mike Modano retired in 2011 and is expecting his first children, twins, with new wife Alison Micheletti.
Although there are many new and exciting things going on in Modano's life, he will be in-house to see his number nine retired by the Stars' organization Saturday night.
"I’ll get the first sentence or two out, and it’ll be a struggle from there. It’s going to be tough." Modano told Michael Russo of the Star Tribune.
Many guests are slated to arrive for the ceremony including Walter Bush, Neal Broten, Bob Gainey, Norm Green, Jamie Langenbrunner, Brett Hull and Wild assistant coach Darryl Sydor.
Modano is grateful for the attention to his career and for the retirement of his number, but above all else, he's amazed at the turnout. "It means everything that so many people are coming."
