John Carlson becomes first player in Capitals' history to make Team USA
The Washington Capitals were elated to find out defenseman John Carlson was named to the 2014 Men's Olympic Hockey Team representing the USA. Not only is it an honor and accomplishment for the 23-year-old, but he is the first Washington Capital to be named to Team USA in franchise history.
In 40 games played this season, Carlson has seven goals and eight assists. The defenseman plays upwards of 23 minutes a night for the Capitals, and is in his fourth season with the team.
As Carlson skated onto the ice for practice Thursday morning, every Capital gave him a stick tap to congratulate him on his accomplishment.
Carlson also took to twitter to thank his supporters, "Thanks everyone! Couldn't be happier to be playing for my country in the Olympics. Thank you to all that have helped me get to where I am today." The Capitals also put up a nice sign for him before practice.
