The Buffalo Sabres and Phoenix Coyotes took their 1-1 Monday night game to overtime, which ended in a strange way.
As the puck was deflected high into the air, Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith came out to play it. Getting the puck in Smith's pants was a team effort, you see. Forward Martin Hanzal tried to bat the puck down when it bounced off Smith's back and into his pants. He didn't notice.
Feeling exposed, Smith retreated to his humble abode of ice, iron, and netting bringing the puck in his pants with him. Over the goal line and sitting comfortably within Smith's equipment, the goal would stand as the overtime winner.
