The Colorado Avalanche signed pending unrestricted free agent defensemen Brett Kulak and Brent Burns to new contracts Friday.
Kulak's new pact is for five years and carries a cap hit of $4.5 million, while Burns' agreement is for one year with a cost of $850,000, reports TSN's Pierre LeBrun.
The Avalanche acquired Kulak from the Pittsburgh Penguins prior to March's trade deadline. He had a quiet regular season in Colorado but made his mark in the playoffs, notching five points in 13 games and scoring the series-winning overtime goal against the Minnesota Wild in Round 2.
Burns, 41, joined the Avalanche on a one-year, $1-million contract last summer. He recored 35 points in 82 games while averaging 18:52 per contest, his lowest mark since 2013-14.
The Avalanche now have six defensemen signed for next season. Colorado president and general manager Joe Sakic recently said he's hopeful the club will sign superstar Cale Makar to a lucrative extension this offseason.
