The Nashville Predators are expected to hire Colorado Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland, ESPN's Emily Kaplan reports.

It is unclear what MacFarland's role in Nashville's front office would be. MacFarland and Predators owner Bill Haslam met face to face Monday after Nashville gained permission to speak with the executive, and the club is hopeful MacFarland will run all hockey operations, sources told Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

MacFarland is unlikely to leave Colorado for a lateral move, Friedman notes.

The Avalanche promoted MacFarland to general manager shortly after winning the Stanley Cup in 2022. Colorado has been one of the NHL's top teams with MacFarland in charge and is fresh off winning the Presidents' Trophy as the league's top regular-season team.

However, the Avalanche's championship aspirations ended abruptly with a sweep by the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final.

The Predators are still in search of a general manager four months after Barry Trotz announced he'd step down at the conclusion of the season. Nashville missed the playoffs for the third time in four years in 2025-26.
