Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield acknowledged he's not meeting his own standards with only one goal and three assists in these playoffs.
"As a whole, probably not where I want to be," Caufield said, per TSN's Mark Masters. "Obviously, I expect more of myself, and my teammates do too. Just trying to get better every game and just trying to make a difference."
Caufield has registered just eight shots and no points in the last four contests. Although his production has dried up, the star winger remains confident.
"It's still there," Caufield said. "Obviously, I want to be better. I want to produce more, but you can't lack confidence in this league. Once you do, I think that's when you really start to struggle. The confidence is there."
The Canadiens' top line as a whole has failed to produce throughout the postseason. Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky are both pointless at even strength through eight games, while captain Nick Suzuki has one goal and one assist.
The trio was one of the best in the league throughout the regular season, with all three players reaching career highs. Caufield finished second in the league with 51 goals, and Suzuki ranked sixth in scoring with 101 points. Meanwhile, Slafkovsky hit the 30-goal mark for the first time.
Facing a 1-0 series deficit, Montreal returns to action Friday against the Buffalo Sabres.
