Report: Devils touched base on Canucks' Hughes
The New Jersey Devils could be looking to make every game a Hughes family reunion.
The Devils have touched base with the Vancouver Canucks regarding All-Star defenseman Quinn Hughes, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports.
"I do not believe there is anything imminent," Friedman said on Hockey Night in Canada. "I don't even know that they're anywhere far along. But I do believe that a conversation was had about where things stand and where they might be going."
The Devils already employ forward Jack Hughes and defender Luke Hughes, the younger brothers of Quinn. Jack is currently sidelined due to a hand injury suffered at a dinner.
Quinn, the captain of the Canucks, is under contract through the 2026-27 campaign.
The Canucks enter Saturday last in the NHL, at 10-15-3. The team is reportedly already shopping veterans with expiring contracts but haven't made Hughes available.
Hughes, 26, has played his entire eight-year career with the Canucks, winning the Norris Trophy in 2023-24. His 431 points ranks No. 1 in franchise history among defenders.
