Jesper Fast retires after 11 NHL seasons
Former New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes winger Jesper Fast announced his retirement Monday after 11 NHL seasons.
Fast sat out the entire 2024-25 campaign after undergoing neck surgery last offseason.
"I never took for granted the privilege of playing in the best league in the world," Fast said. "I am grateful for all of the teammates, coaches, staff and fans from the Rangers and Hurricanes who made my time in the NHL so special, and for my family for everything they did to help me achieve and live my dream. I'd also like to thank Nässjö HC and HV71, organizations that played a vital role in my development into an NHL player."
Fast recorded 248 points across his 703 career games for an average of 29 points per 82 contests. He also added 14 goals and 13 assists in 80 career postseason appearances.
While the 33-year-old Swede wasn't known for his offense, he was a tenacious forechecker and strong defensive player. He tallied seven seasons of at least 100 hits and received down-ballot Selke Trophy votes in 2022 and 2016.
