Brady Tkachuk injured in USA's loss to Sweden
Team USA forward Brady Tkachuk suffered an injury in the first period of his club's 2-1 loss to Sweden on Monday and didn't return.
Tkachuk went to the locker room after crashing into the Swedish net. The Ottawa Senators captain returned to the bench later in the first period but didn't take another shift. He didn't return for the start of the second stanza and was subsequently ruled out.
USA head coach Mike Sullivan said postgame that Tkachuk was held out "more for precautionary reasons," per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. Sullivan didn't provide a further update but said he didn't think the injury would be an issue for Thursday's final versus Canada.
Tkachuk's injury was the latest of many for the Americans. Brady's brother, Matthew Tkachuk, missed the game with a lower-body ailment, while Auston Matthews and Charlie McAvoy didn't dress due to upper-body injuries. Vincent Trocheck also left the game temporarily after taking a puck to the hand but later returned.
Brady has potted a pair of goals in the tournament and has notched 44 points in 56 NHL games this season.
