Penguins' Rakell replacing Knights' Karlsson for Sweden at 4 Nations
Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell will replace Vegas Golden Knights forward William Karlsson on Sweden's roster at next week's 4 Nations Face-Off, the national team announced Tuesday.
Karlsson hasn't played since Jan. 20 due to a lower-body injury. He was initially labeled week-to-week, but it was unclear if the ailment would impact his availability for the upcoming best-on-best tournament.
Rakell leads the Penguins with 23 goals in 53 games and ranks second on the team with 45 points, behind only Team Canada captain Sidney Crosby.
The 31-year-old is on pace for around 69 points, which would match the career high he established in 2017-18 as a member of the Anaheim Ducks.
There are now two Penguins on Sweden's roster, as defenseman Erik Karlsson was one of the first six players named to the team in June.
The 4 Nations Face-Off runs from Feb. 12-20 with games taking place in Montreal and Boston.
