Star rookie Macklin Celebrini feels the San Jose Sharks must learn from their defeat after blowing a 4-1 lead in the third period Thursday against the St. Louis Blues and losing in overtime.

"I mean, there's lots that we need to improve on," Celebrini said, according to The Athletic's Eric Stephens. "Like, we're not perfect. I thought we had all the energy going into the third. (The Blues) just got one and then it kind of snowballed after that, which can't happen. ... It sucks because we gave up three goals and an overtime winner. We need to learn from it and move on."

The Sharks and Celebrini got off to a fantastic start. The 2024 first overall pick scored his first NHL goal just seven minutes into the game and thought forward William Eklund got a piece of it based on his reaction.

"I thought (Eklund) was just super excited that he scored but I guess he was happy for me," Celebrini said, according to NHL.com's Tracey Myers.

Celebrini added his first assist before the end of the opening frame on a dish to veteran forward Tyler Toffoli.

"(Celebrini's) an incredible, incredible talent," Toffoli said, according to SJ Hockey Now's Sheng Peng. "Works extremely hard. ... At the end of the day, he wants to win games, too, and he's going to do whatever it takes."

"It's cool to get the first (goal and assist) for my career. But we lost, so it sucks," Celebrini said, according to Peng.

Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors was in attendance and was hyped up after Celebrini's goal.

Celebrini's father, Rick, works for the Warriors as director of sports medicine and performance.

San Jose will try to get its first win of the Celebrini era on Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks.
