Devils hire former Flyers GM Fletcher as senior adviser
The New Jersey Devils announced Thursday they hired Chuck Fletcher as a senior adviser.
Fletcher, 57, will advise general manager Tom Fitzgerald on hockey operations, including player personnel, scouting, and contracts. He briefly served as a senior adviser with the Devils in 2018 before being hired as GM of the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers amassed a 141-145-43 record over parts of five seasons with Fletcher at the helm and made the playoffs once. He was fired in March 2023.
As Minnesota Wild GM from 2009-18, Fletcher built a consistent playoff team that failed to make any deep runs. The Wild won two series in Fletcher's nine years despite reaching the playoffs in six straight seasons.
Fletcher's biggest splash came in 2012 when he signed Zach Parise and Ryan Suter to matching 13-year, $98-million contracts. Both were ultimately bought out in 2021 and will remain on the Wild's cap until 2029.
The Devils also hired ex-captain Andy Greene as a hockey operations adviser, as well as former NHLers Manny Legace and Geoff Sanderson as scouts.
Greene played 923 games with New Jersey and captained the team from 2015-20. He retired in 2022.
