Sharks' Simek: Shaw's hit that caused concussion was dirty

San Jose Sharks defenseman Radim Simek voiced his frustrations with the play that has kept him out of the lineup for four games.

"(Minnesota Wild forward Mason Shaw) had a chance to hit my body, but he didn't even try to hit my body. He went through my head," Simek told Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News. "I think it was a dirty, dirty play."

Simek sustained a concussion on the play.

Shaw was not penalized for the hit. The NHL Department of Player Safety reviewed the play but didn't levy any supplemental discipline.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Simek's teammate in San Jose, was similarly critical of the play last week. "Apparently, the league thought it was clean. I don't make the decisions. But I guess it was clean," Vlasic sarcastically told San Jose Hockey Now's Sheng Peng. "Guy got hit in the head and it was still clean."

Simek practiced Monday morning but remained out of the lineup against the Ottawa Senators. He's expected to be available for Wednesday's game against the Seattle Kraken.

The 30-year-old has one goal in 17 games this season.
