The Toronto Maple Leafs placed backup goaltender Michael Hutchinson on waivers, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.

Hutchinson authored a 4.44 goals-against average and .879 save percentage in six games this year. He was acquired from the Florida Panthers last season in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

Kasimir Kaskisuo appears to be the logical candidate to be called up as Frederik Andersen's backup. The 6-foot-3 Finn is off to a red-hot start with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, beginning his season 6-1-1 and posting a 2.13 goals-against average and .928 save percentage.

If called up, the 26-year-old could make his NHL debut Saturday on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins, given head coach Mike Babcock's tendency to start his backup netminder in the second game of back-to-backs.
