Will Smith starring as Dr. Bennet Omalu in 'Concussion' didn't stir up quite as much controversy as some may have thought, but the exposure of the NFL's handling of concussions is certainly troubling to some.
Saturday, active Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy called out the NFL for continuing to employ of Dr. Elliot Pellman, who is known for downplaying the link between CTE and football.
Despite being a rheumatologist, Pellman served as chair of the Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Committee, where he used his power to discredit research and doctors that proved a link between concussions and football.
Deadspin and ESPN have published detailed reports of his troubling actions in an effort to cover up links to and proof of CTE.
For reference, he's the guy from the trailer who says "No proof was presented today because there simply isn't any."
Most player criticism of the situation has been from retired athletes, but Levy is breaking that mold. He also commended linebacker Chris Borland for retiring after one season at the age of 24 in August.
