Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy was demoted for Thursday's game against the Detroit Lions after missing curfew Wednesday night, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.
Lacy declined to state why he received fewer carries in the game, while head coach Mike McCarthy indicated that he performed poorly in practice.
Despite dropping hints, McCarthy wouldn't confirm whether Lacy's decrease in touches was a result of a disciplinary matter.
"He needs to build off his preparation," McCarthy said of Lacy. "He's put up some yards in the prior games, but he can be better. We need to be better as a team, frankly. I discussed this in our team meeting. There's a lot more to give. The fine details are not where we want them to be. There's a formula for us to get it there. That was made clear to our players and with the expectations and the commitment that we’ve made to each other, and we've got to do a better job."
Lacy struggled against the Lions, rushing for four yards on five carries. James Starks and John Crockett were used as the Packers' primary backs.
Green Bay worked out running back Montee Ball on Friday, and the former Denver Bronco could feature in the team's offense as a result of Lacy's indiscretion.
