The Oakland Raiders acquired a player they believe can be a franchise quarterback in the NFL, selecting Derek Carr with the No. 36 overall pick in the draft.
The Raiders traded for Matt Schaub in the offseason, but he's clearly not the long-term answer for Oakland at quarterback. However, Carr could play behind Schaub and doesn't have to get thrown into the fire right away.
A gunslinger in the mold of Matthew Stafford and Jay Cutler, Carr was a prolific passer at Fresno State. In his final season in college, he threw for over 5,000 yards and amassed 50 touchdowns.
Carr isn't the first passer in his family to hear his name called on draft day. Older brother David was the expansion Houston Texans' No. 1 overall pick in the 2002 draft.
