Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield revealed on Netflix's upcoming season of "Quarterback" that he played through a multitude of injuries last season, according to 10 Tampa Bay News' Evan Closky.
Mayfield discloses in the show that he played through a sprained MCL and PCL from as early as Week 2, Cosky adds. He reportedly rated his knee pain at a seven out of 10 by the time Tampa Bay returned from its Week 9 bye.
The 31-year-old also suffered a biceps injury in Week 3 and wore a sleeve throughout the season to cover up the bruising, per Cosky. On top of the knee and biceps issue, Mayfield dealt with an AC joint injury that forced him to exit a Week 12 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He ultimately started every contest during the campaign despite the numerous injuries.
Mayfield was an MVP candidate through the first six games of the 2025 season, leading the Buccaneers to a 5-1 record while throwing for 1,539 yards with 12 touchdowns and one interception.
However, his play tailed off down the stretch, as Tampa Bay went 3-8 in its final 11 games and missed the playoffs. Out of 32 qualifying quarterbacks from Weeks 7-18, Mayfield threw the second-most interceptions (10) and ranked 30th in passer rating, according to TruMedia.
The Buccaneers and Mayfield are in the midst of extension negotiations. Mayfield said in early June that the two sides aren't close to an agreement and set a deadline for reaching a deal before camp starts at the end of July. He's entering the final season of a three-year, $100-million contract he signed in 2024.
Netflix will release the third season of "Quarterback" on Tuesday.
