Report: Jon Bon Jovi, Toronto Maple Leafs owners want to purchase Buffalo Bills
Rock star Jon Bon Jovi and the group that owns the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs, NBA's Toronto Raptors and a few other sports properties in Canada could align to make a bid for the Buffalo Bills, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora and John Breech report.
Bon Jovi's reported interest in buying an NFL team is nothing new. Back in October, there were rumors Bon Jovi was readying to bid for the Bills. At the time, he suggested he wouldn't make a move with Bills owner Ralph Wilson still in the picture.
Following Wilson's death, Breech says Bon Jovi and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, owner of the Maple Leafs and a major sports media player in Canada, could join forces (and money) in an attempt to buy the Bills.
MLSE Chairman Larry Tanenbaum "remains in league with Bon Jovi," John Kryk of the Toronto Sun writes.
Bon Jovi's estimated net worth is somewhere in the range of $300 million - far less than he would need to buy an NFL team (the Bills are expected to sell for about $1 billion). MLSE may have the cash to make it happen, but the NFL doesn't permit corporations to own teams.
It's unclear if Bon Jovi or another person would serve as the primary owner in a joint ownership bid.
