Minnifield was released by the Redskins on Tuesday, the The Washington Post reports.
Minnifield was signed in April as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia, after suffering an injury that pushed him out of the 2012 NFL draft. The rookie cornerback was previously expected to be ready to play come the start of the regular season, but due to a recent setback, the Redskins decided to let him go. Should he clear the waivers however, the Redskins plan on placing Minnifield on the team's injured reserve. David Jones, a sixth year journeyman, was signed onto the team's roster in Minnifield's stead.
