The Pittsburgh Steelers are finalizing a trade that will send cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys, sources told The Ringer's Tom Pelissero.
Dallas is sending a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round selection to Pittsburgh in exchange for Porter, a source told Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein.
The 26-year-old Porter has been inactive in each of the Steelers' first three games due to a back issue. He was listed as out for Pittsburgh's game against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday despite being a full participant at practice this week.
Porter and the Steelers recently engaged in contract negotiations but weren't able to reach an agreement. The standout defensive back is in the last year of his rookie contract.
The Cowboys' depth at cornerback has taken a hit following their loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. Shavon Revel appeared to sustain a right knee and ankle injury while attempting to tackle Ravens receiver Zay Flowers last week. Cobie Durant remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
The trade marks yet another move by a Cowboys team desperately looking to fix its struggling defensive unit.
So Cowboys have traded for five veteran defensive starters in the last 14 months: Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams, Dee Winters, Rashan Gary and now Joey Porter.
