New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson described his playoff hopes this season as "very realistic," despite a drought that dates back to 2010, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.
"I mean, I think it should happen, I'll say that," the 26-year-old said Tuesday. "It's our job to go play ball and do it, but that's how I feel about it."
New York's 15-year streak stands as the longest active playoff drought in major North American professional sports. The Jets were tied with the Buffalo Sabres for the dubious honor until the NHL franchise snapped its 14-year stretch last season.
The Jets have finished with double-digit losses in all but one of their last 10 seasons. Their three wins last year marked their worst output since they went 2-14 in 2020. The team is again projected to struggle despite a handful of intriguing offseason additions, including veteran quarterback Geno Smith.
"Something is going to happen this year," Wilson said. "I'm a faithful guy and I believe that. With the work we've been putting in, we have as good an opportunity as anybody in the league.
"I'm excited, man. We have a hell of a group here."
Wilson has been a bright spot for the Jets in his brief career, compiling three 1,000-yard campaigns in four seasons.
