Parsons: Cowboys trading me to Eagles 'almost happened'

Green Bay Packers pass-rusher Micah Parsons says he was close to being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles last summer when the Dallas Cowboys were shopping him.

However, Parsons revealed that a hangup over the inclusion of Jalen Carter seemed to be a roadblock in the negotiations.

"To be honest with you bro, it was very close," Parsons said on his podcast, "The Edge." "It was very close. Eagles, before the Jaelan Phillips (trade), before all of them, it was me. I was really about to come but there was one person that I had to play with, that if he was gone, I didn't want to be there and that was Jalen Carter."

Parsons added, "They wanted a (defensive) tackle and they wanted to trade me plus some picks. I don't really care about the picks but I'm coming to play next to (Carter), you feel me? Sorry Cowboys fans, it really almost happened."

It was previously reported that the Eagles were interested in Parsons and contacted the Cowboys to inquire about him before being rebuffed. Dallas eventually traded the 26-year-old to the Packers, receiving two first-round picks and three-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Kenny Clark in return.

Dallas is rumored to have inserted a "poison pill" condition in the trade with Green Bay that's intended to prevent the NFC North franchise from trading Parsons to Philadelphia. If the Packers send Parsons to an NFC East team before the end of the 2026 season, they would have to send the Cowboys their 2028 first-round draft pick.

Parsons, a Penn State product and Pennsylvania native, recorded 12.5 sacks over 14 games in his first year with the Packers, though his season ended prematurely due to a torn ACL.
