Sirianni: Benching Hurts a 'ridiculous' idea
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni dismissed the idea of benching quarterback Jalen Hurts down the road.
"No, I think that's ridiculous," Sirianni said Wednesday on 94 WIP, according to ESPN's Tim McManus. "I know every time I go out on that field with Jalen Hurts as our quarterback, we have a chance to win the game. That's something that's been proven. We've won a lot of football games."
He added: "This is the most ultimate team game. You win together as a team, you lose together as a team. It's never just one thing."
Hurts is coming off the first four-interception performance of his career, while the Eagles' offense continues to struggle to score points. Philadelphia has now lost three straight and has been held to 21 points or less in five consecutive contests.
Despite the issues, Sirianni said he's confident there are signs that a breakthrough could occur.
"I know we can continue to get better. There was a lot of good things on offense on Monday night," Sirianni said. "It was really good defense, it was really good special teams, and there were a lot of good things on offense.
"I come away encouraged from that game, knowing that we have things to clean up. ... No one is pressing, everyone is just thinking, how do we get ourselves in the best position to win this game and play our best game this game?"
Tanner McKee serves as Hurts' backup. He made his first NFL start in Week 18 last season, throwing for two touchdowns to zero interceptions in a win over the New York Giants.
Hurts, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, has completed just 64.7% of his passes this year, his lowest mark since 2021. He's also recorded 19 passing touchdowns and six interceptions, plus eight rushing scores.
The 8-5 Eagles will look to end their skid against the 2-11 Las Vegas Raiders at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
