New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn was impressed with Geno Smith in the quarterback's preseason debut Friday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"Very, very efficient, he looked very comfortable," Glenn said after the 17-0 win, according to Jets writer Jack Bell. "Exactly what we were looking for. But again, we still have some things we got to work on because our run game wasn't where it needs to be."
Smith played just one drive in the game, but he completed all seven of his pass attempts for 65 yards and a score. He capped the series with a 13-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jelani Woods as he was rolling left.

Smith sat out last week's preseason opener due to a sore ankle. However, New York reportedly wasn't concerned about the injury, and Smith would've played had it been a regular-season game.
Friday marked the 35-year-old's first time suiting up in a Jets uniform in nine years after being drafted by the club in the second round in 2013. New York reacquired Smith in March for a late-round pick swap following his lone season with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he led the NFL in interceptions.
"There's always room for improvement, but we're always going to strive for perfection," Smith said of his performance Friday. "I don't really get too high or too low on anything. I think it's about the process, and I'm really focused on the process."
Smith's projected to be the Jets' Week 1 starter when they face off against the Tennessee Titans. Before landing with the Raiders, Smith had a solid three-year run as the Seattle Seahawks' starting quarterback, ranking fourth in the league with 12,226 passing yards from 2022-24.
The Jets play their preseason finale Aug. 28 against the New York Giants.
