Rodgers laments offensive miscues in loss vs. Bills: 'Do the right route'
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers voiced his frustration with the Pittsburgh Steelers' persistent miscommunication on offense following Sunday's 27-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
"When there's film sessions, everybody shows up, and when I check to a route, you do the right route," Rodgers said, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor. "... We have our meetings every week. We have other opportunities outside of the facility, and (I) look forward to seeing all the boys there."
The Steelers' offense failed to generate momentum against the Bills. Rodgers, who completed 10 of 21 passes for 117 yards, cited several miscues between himself and Pittsburgh's pass-catchers, including a missed connection with tight end Jonnu Smith.
"Jonnu and I just weren't on the same page," Rodgers said. "I checked to his in-breaker, and he ran an out-breaker. Jonnu is a true professional, so I'm sure he's sick about that."
Rodgers also highlighted a missed pass to Roman Wilson along the sideline on a third-and-4 attempt in the first quarter, calling it a "shitty throw."
"Disappointed in my performance, disappointed in the offensive performance and got to flush it," Rodgers said.
Pittsburgh's offense managed just 10 first downs and 166 total yards against a Bills' defense that had surrendered an average of 28.5 points over the past three games, per NFL.com's Kevin Patra.
Rodgers returned to Pittsburgh's starting lineup Sunday after fracturing his left wrist against the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 16 and missing a contest. The four-time MVP said he felt good enough to be on the field, though his injury forced him to avoid taking snaps directly under center and instead run plays out of shotgun and pistol formations.
Mason Rudolph replaced Rodgers for a series after the future Hall of Famer remained on the ground following a sack by Joey Bosa in the third quarter. The 41-year-old managed to walk off the field under his own power and missed only one offensive series.
Pittsburgh's offensive woes left home fans frustrated, leading to boos and "Fire Tomlin" chants as the game neared its end. Rodgers acknowledged the fan base's disappointment, saying the reaction was understandable given Sunday's result.
"That was a boo-worthy performance," said Rodgers, per Pryor.
The Steelers (6-6) will try to get back on track when they face the Baltimore Ravens (6-6) on Sunday.
