Report: Vikings placing Aaron Jones on IR
The Minnesota Vikings are placing veteran running back Aaron Jones on injured reserve, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Jones, who's dealing with a hamstring injury, had already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he'll now miss at least four contests after landing on IR.
The 30-year-old topped 1,000 rushing yards during his first year with the Vikings in 2024. However, he didn't have a big impact on the team's first two games this season and has registered only 13 carries.
The Vikings have a bye in Week 6, so Jones could return against the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 23.
With Jones sidelined, Jordan Mason will headline the Vikings' depth chart. Minnesota also signed free-agent tailback Cam Akers on Tuesday, reuniting with the 26-year-old for a third stint together.
The Vikings also have injury issues at the quarterback position after J.J. McCarthy sustained a high ankle sprain. He's reportedly expected to miss two-to-four weeks.
