Eagles' Sirianni: Hurts criticism is 'bullshit'

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had some choice words for those who think that quarterback Jalen Hurts is nothing more than a game manager.

"That’s bullshit," the sideline boss said, according to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

He added: "Anytime I hear that, it's cool, it's like a nice debate thing that people like to have. And I get it, there's a lot of hours that TV shows and radio stations have to fill to be able to fill that debate. I understand that, but we're talking about the ultimate team game there is, and he does whatever he needs to do to win each and every game."

Hurts led the Eagles to a 40-22 Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year. He was named the contest's MVP after scoring three total touchdowns, two with his arm and the other with his legs. He also became the fifth signal-caller in NFL history with multiple touchdown passes and a rushing score in a Super Bowl appearance.

The Eagles' championship roster also featured stars like running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver A.J. Brown, but Sirianni doesn't think an elite lineup discredits Hurts' ability.

"You name me a team that wins and wins consistently that doesn't have good players around you," the coach said. "Like, you name me a coach that doesn't have good players around him that wins. Like, you don't win with bad players, and it's the same thing, you don't win with bad players as a quarterback either."

Hurts is entering his sixth NFL season and has compiled a 46-20 record as a starter, racking up 85 passing touchdowns and 55 rushing scores along the way.
