Report: Martavis Bryant returns to NFL, signs with Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are signing newly reinstated free-agent receiver Martavis Bryant, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Bryant, who was reinstated last Saturday by commissioner Roger Goodell, last appeared in the NFL in 2018 as a member of the then-Oakland Raiders.

A fourth-round pick in the 2014 draft, the 6-foot-4 receiver made a name for himself early in his career for his physical attributes and speed. He spent four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, averaging 15.2 yards per reception and catching 17 touchdowns.

The Steelers traded him to the Raiders ahead of the 2018 season. In his lone campaign with the team, he caught 19 passes for 266 yards across eight games.

Bryant's career was interrupted multiple times due to violations of the league's substance abuse policy. He missed the first four games of the 2015 season and the entire 2016 campaign due to suspensions. He was banned indefinitely at the end of 2018.

During his time away from the NFL, Bryant was signed by the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Elk of the CFL but didn't appear in any games. He briefly played in the seven-on-seven indoor Fan Controlled Football league and in the XFL as a member of the Vegas Vipers.
