Free-agent quarterback Cam Newton has some demands for the New York Jets should the team inquire about his services.

Newton laid out his requirements for potentially joining the Jets on Thursday's episode of the "RG3 and The Ones" podcast with Robert Griffin III, saying he'd want more than a $5.5-million contract.

"You not about to sit up there and penny pinch me, bro," Newton said. "I'm not about to sit up there and sign no $5.5-million deal, bro. Those days are over with. I'd be wasting my time.

"Because I'll tell you, if you don't think that I can be on a roster right now - I could, but it's bigger than that to me. Am I in shape right now? Hell yeah. In any situation, I'm going to sit up there and analyze it as much as possible. I don't want to walk into a dysfunctional situation. Have you guys made Zach Wilson aware? Also, Aaron Rodgers is trying to come back this year. Let's also talk about that. So, when he comes back, is it just going to be somethin' that you just say, aye, watch out?"

The Jets have rolled with Wilson as their starting quarterback since losing Rodgers to a torn Achilles in the season opener. The team is 1-3 entering Sunday's matchup against the Denver Broncos.

Newton last played in the NFL during the 2021 season with the Carolina Panthers, posting an 0-5 record in his five starts.
