Saints' Allen not planning staff shake-up despite offensive struggles

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen doesn't plan to tinker with his coaching staff amid criticisms aimed at the club and offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael.

"We won't make any coaching changes," Allen said Monday, according to NOLA.com's Patrick Magee. "I've never seen that to be the right answer, particularly when we're four games in. And yet we have to be better. I understand everyone's frustration because everyone in the building feels it."

Allen added Carmichael is aware of the backlash and is "working hard to get it fixed."

New Orleans' offense has struggled to get into the end zone in losses to the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The offense was only able to muster 197 total yards and 16 first downs in a 26-9 loss to the Bucs on Sunday. They were also hindered by three turnovers.

The Saints haven't scored more than 20 points in any of their first four contests and find themselves close to the bottom of the league in points per game (15.5) and total yards per game (285.3).

With the addition of Derek Carr this past offseason, expectations for the Saints' offense were set fairly high. The unit boasts plenty of talent, especially among pass-catchers, such as Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, and Rashid Shaheed. Carr started the divisional matchup despite dealing with a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder.

Starting running back Alvin Kamara, who tallied 84 scrimmage yards in his first game back from a three-game suspension, believes it's time to have "some tough conversations," according to Saints Wire's John Sigler.

"It's been two years since we had that offense that was rolling. Now we're kind of in this rut," Kamara added Sunday.

The Saints will take on the New England Patriots (1-3) in Week 5.
