Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams revealed Friday that he considered retiring after his latest injury.
"It was tough," Adams said Friday, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. "I thought about retiring. I thought about a lot of things. Is this going to be it for me? I didn't know. But I knew eventually, after I got that MRI, I told myself I'm going to be back. I didn't know when or how, but I was going to figure it out."
Adams suffered a season-ending torn left quadriceps tendon in Week 1 of the 2022 campaign. He's set to return from the injury in Seattle's Week 4 matchup against the New York Giants on Monday night.
The 27-year-old defender admitted that the ailment didn't just impact his football career.
"I was in a dark place," Adams said.
He added: "At the time, I wasn't really talking to many people, wasn't answering my phone. So, you go through real-life situations in this game of football."
The three-time Pro Bowler has also suffered a pair of shoulder labrum tears during his career. In addition, he's sustained minor injuries to his groin, elbow, and fingers.
However, Adams is excited to get back on the field after his extended hiatus.
"I won't take a play for granted," he said. "I won't take a moment or a second for granted. Just to be able to fly on a plane with my teammates is going to be big for me. ... I'm looking forward to the season. I'm excited to be back."
Adams joined the Seahawks via a trade with the New York Jets ahead of the 2020 campaign. He remains under contract with Seattle through the 2025 campaign after he signed a four-year, $70-million deal with the club in 2021.
The LSU product has 446 total tackles, 43 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, four interceptions, 34 pass deflections, and seven forced fumbles in 71 career games.
