Former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is visiting the New England Patriots on Sunday, a source told NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Elliott is among the top free-agent running backs available, along with the likes of Dalvin Cook, Kareem Hunt, and Leonard Fournette, among others.

The 28-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Cowboys prior to his release. Elliott led the NFL in rushing in two of his first three seasons as he quickly emerged as one of the league's top backs in his early years.

However, his production began to decline in recent seasons, culminating in his release. He rushed for a career-worst 3.8 yards per carry in 2022 and ended the season with 876 yards, also the lowest of his NFL tenure.

New England heads into the season with Rhamondre Stevenson as its lead running back, but the team lacks depth behind him. Second-year pros Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris are among the backs behind him.

The Patriots hosted Fournette for a visit this offseason while the franchise has reportedly also shown interest in Cook.
