Mayfield set to start vs. Packers with Wolford likely out
Baker Mayfield is in line to make his first start for the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers.
Head coach Sean McVay told reporters Tuesday that quarterback John Wolford is expected to miss Week 15 due to a neck injury, paving the way for Mayfield to start, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Mayfield, who was claimed off waivers last Tuesday, played hero in the Rams' Thursday night victory over the Las Vegas Raiders last week. Though he didn't start, the signal-caller led two touchdown drives in the fourth quarter to rally L.A. from a 13-point deficit to win 17-16.
The 27-year-old sealed the victory by capping off a 98-yard drive with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Van Jefferson.
Mayfield ended up in Los Angeles after requesting his release from the Carolina Panthers. He started six games for the Panthers this season, throwing six touchdowns to six interceptions with the club.
The Rams' 2022 campaign hasn't gone as expected for the reigning Super Bowl champions. The club owns a 4-9 record, while stars such as Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp are on injured reserve.
