Tests confirmed Monday that New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones suffered a "pretty severe" high ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Jones will likely miss multiple games, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
A high ankle sprain of this caliber would typically require some players to undergo surgery, Schefter adds, but the Patriots and Jones are reportedly still working through their options on that front.
The second-year passer hopped off the field and was in clear pain while being helped to the locker room late versus the Ravens. X-rays on Jones' ankle reportedly came back negative.
Jones has completed 66% of his passes for 786 yards and two touchdowns against a league-high five interceptions this season. The 2021 No. 15 pick helped New England reach the playoffs after posting a 10-7 record as a rookie.
The 1-2 Patriots, who visit the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, also roster quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and fourth-round rookie Bailey Zappe.
