Amazon Prime Video is eyeing retired quarterback Drew Brees for an alternative Thursday Night Football telecast that would feature only quarterbacks, sources told Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports.
The alternate cast would run for four-to-six weeks in support of Amazon's main TNF broadcast, which rosters Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit as its main duo, McCarthy adds.
Brees teamed up with NBC last year, but the two sides parted ways in May after just one season. The former New Orleans Saints quarterback was one of the network's analysts on "Football Night in America." He also called two NFL games and teamed up with Mike Tirico on Notre Dame gamedays.
Amazon will take over Thursday Night Football from the 2022 season and is reportedly paying the NFL $1 billion annually through 2033 for broadcast rights.
The network has also reportedly shown interest in adding Pat McAfee for an alternative Thursday Night Football telecast.
Amazon's star-studded football crew already features the likes of Richard Sherman, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Aqib Talib, among others.
