Report: Buccaneers sign DC Bowles to new 3-year deal

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles agreed to a three-year contract, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bowles' new deal replaces the one year remaining on his former pact, per Schefter. He'll reportedly continue to be the NFL's highest-paid defensive coordinator, and the new contract won't prohibit him from taking a head coaching job.

The 57-year-old has led the Buccaneers' defense for the last two seasons, joining the team alongside head coach Bruce Arians.

Bowles helped turn Tampa Bay into one of the league's top defenses in 2020.

The unit finished eighth in points allowed and sixth in yards allowed during the regular season before limiting the Kansas City Chiefs to just nine points during Tampa Bay's Super Bowl win.

Bowles was the head coach of the New York Jets from 2015-18. The Jets fired him after recording a 26-41 record over four seasons.

But Bowles appears on track for another shot at being a head coach. He was reportedly a candidate this offseason for coaching vacancies with the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Atlanta Falcons.
