Report: Golladay in talks with Giants, has offer from Bengals

The New York Giants are in talks with free-agent receiver Kenny Golladay and are expected to bring the former Detroit Lion in for a visit, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports, citing a source.

A visit and physical may be necessary before the two sides reach an agreement, as Golladay missed 11 games in 2020 due to a hip injury. Other teams remain interested in the four-year vet, with the Cincinnati Bengals already having an offer on the table, according to ESPN's Dianna Russini.

Golladay is considered the market's top wideout after reaching 3,068 yards and 21 touchdowns across his four seasons in Detroit.

Before his injury-plagued 2020, the 27-year-old's 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns helped him reach the Pro Bowl in 2019.

The Giants could sorely use a No. 1 receiver after ranking 29th in the league in passing yards in 2020, averaging less than 200 yards through the air per game. Adding a player of Golladay's caliber would help quarterback Daniel Jones develop as he enters his third campaign and would also move fellow wideouts Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard down the depth chart into more comfortable roles. New York has also agreed to a deal with speed threat John Ross.

The Bengals also need to improve a passing game that ranked 27th last season. Quarterback Joe Burrow will be entering his sophomore year and coming off of a torn ACL. The 24-year-old has promising young pass-catchers Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins in tow, but longtime Bengal A.J. Green signed with the Arizona Cardinals in free agency. Burrow and co. could benefit from a veteran presence in the offense.

The receiver market was slow to develop during the legal tampering period of free agency, with only Marvin Jones, Corey Davis, and Green among the big names finding deals.
