The New England Patriots are in a strange spot sitting in third place in the AFC East after a loss to the Denver Broncos, but Cam Newton thinks it's too early to throw caution to the wind.

"There's no need to press the panic button. There's no need to start reinventing the wheel. We have the answers in that locker room," Newton said on The Greg Hill Show, per ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Sunday's loss put the Patriots at 2-3 and marks the first time since 2002 that the team is below .500 through five games.

Newton, making his first start since coming off the COVID-19 list, didn't put together his best performance against the Broncos, throwing for just 157 yards and two interceptions. The quarterback alluded to a lack of practice as a factor leading to his struggles.

"Timing was off. The anticipation was off. I think that was the biggest discrepancy of not having practice," Newton said, according to NESN's Zack Cox.

The 31-year-old quarterback took accountability after the Patriots' offense put up just 12 points Sunday.

"I don't point fingers, I point thumbs and with that being said, I take full responsibility of where we are as an offense and knowing that here moving forward, it starts with No. 1 and I will be better," Newton said.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Newton had a strong message for those who believe the Patriots' run of success may be coming to an end due to recent shortcomings.

"The sky may be falling the next couple of days. I'll bring my raincoat and my umbrella to get the job done," the quarterback said, per team reporter Megan O'Brien.
