Dalton confident he'll keep Cowboys' offense rolling in Prescott's absence
Quarterback Andy Dalton is confident he can lead the Dallas Cowboys' offense and keep things rolling without Dak Prescott.
"We don't see things changing much. I feel like we can just run this offense," Dalton said Friday, according to Todd Archer of ESPN. "I've been in a lot of different systems and kind of been through it all, so I like everything that we're doing and my job is to keep this thing exactly how Dak had it. Dak was playing really well, and we don't feel like we want there to be any drop-off since he's not going to be in there."
Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5, giving Dalton another chance as a starting quarterback.
"Obviously, I've been used to starting," said Dalton, who started 133 games with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2011 to 2019. "My role is a little different the first five games being behind Dak, but now it's like getting back to, basically, how it was for me. And so I know how to prepare."
Dalton, 32, owns a career 70-61-2 regular-season record. He's the Bengals' all-time passing touchdowns leader with 204.
The three-time Pro Bowler, who inked a one-year deal with Dallas in the offseason, took over at quarterback for the Cowboys in the second half of last week's game against the New York Giants. He completed nine of 11 pass attempts for 111 yards while managing the game-winning drive.
Prescott, meanwhile, threw for 4,902 yards last season and recorded a league-high 1,856 passing yards through five games this year. The 2-3 Cowboys are averaging 32.6 points per contest, which ranks third in the NFL.
Dallas faces the Arizona Cardinals on Monday.
