Irvin out for season with torn ACL

The Seattle Seahawks outside linebacker Bruce Irvin suffered a torn ACL and is out for the remainder of the season, head coach Pete Carroll confirmed Monday, per USA Today's Liz Mathews.

The defensive lineman went down during Sunday night's game against the New England Patriots.

Defensive back Marquise Blair is also out for the season with a knee injury he sustained in Sunday's game.

Head coach Pete Carroll was optimistic about Irvin's outlook following the contest, calling it a "knee sprain" and noting that the linebacker was walking around the locker room, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson.

The Seahawks' defense has been a major concern so far this season. The team has just three sacks, with two coming from safety Jamal Adams alone. Irvin is listed as the team's strong-side linebacker but also helps the pass rush.

The Seahawks selected Irvin - who is in the midst of his second stint with the team - during the first round in 2012. The 32-year-old recorded a career-high 8.5 sacks last season with the Carolina Panthers.
